IDO Edits // Klaylife – Handcrafted Beaded Lighting
There’s no doubt that well considered lighting is a key feature of any interior space. Melbourne’s Klaylife produces one of a kind clay beaded lights and chandeliers that are absolute show stoppers. Beyond that they have a very human story rooted in traditional craftsmanship of South Africa.
Each clay bead is hand rolled from raw clay then sun dried, kiln fired and dip-dyed and finally they are strung onto iron frames. This hand made process ensures that no two pieces are ever the same.

Klaylife lighting is lovingly created by a community of women in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. In 2012, 8 ladies whose lives were impacted by HIV were permanently employed, enabling them to support their families. There are now more than 65 people – mostly women – rolling beads and creating their own masterpieces for Klaylife.
These beautiful pendant lights are surprisingly versatile – Klaylife has styled them to show how they seamlessly blend with a number of different decor styles from industrial to coastal, Scandi to traditional. Find out more on their website here. Follow Klaylife on Instagram @Klaylife.
