London Design Festival 2018 // Wrap up

London Design Festival was inspiring… and exhausting! The program of events was extensive and it felt like we barely scratched the surface, despite being on the go for days. These are some of my highlights.”

Amanda Grace, IDO Director

London is a fantastic source of inspiration at any time of the year – just walking around you see fantastic contemporary and traditional architecture and exciting retail styling – and during LDF it’s design overload. If you missed our London Design Festival 2018 preview you can check it out here.

The IDO team loved the concept and execution of Made.com‘s TalentLAB. TalentLAB is an opportunity for emerging designers to have their work crowd funded and produced. For the rest of us it’s a place to discover and support new talent and unique, original products.

MultiPly is a modular, carbon neutral structure comprising of a series of cubes linked by stairs and corridors. Waugh Thistleton Architects created this landmark project for LDF using the potential of wood in contemporary housing and to explore sustainable materials. Visit Waugh Thistleton’s website to read more and see some great video footage.

Benchmark exemplified and demonstrated the meeting of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Responsible and sustainable design is at the heart of Benchmark’s design ethos, with a deep rooted belief in craft and craftsmanship.

Sustainability and a concern for the environmental impact of design were themes that ran throughout a lot of LDF this year.

A definite highlight for us was the Skandium Townhouse in South Kensington. The home showcased the best of eco conscious Scandinavian design. In a departure from the Scandi white and neutral palette we know and love, Skandium brought us a vibrant colour clash of brights!
